Feng Shui is the art of manipulating the environment, with the aim of generating positive energy. Feng Shui originated in China, based on theories stating that people are affected by their environment. Feng Shui is a series of rules detailing how furniture how should be placed in the house, in order to allow it to channel the energy known as 'Chi'.
If you wish to decorate your home to be Feng Shui friendly, you will need to start with a Bagua Map. This details the eight building blocks of life:
- love/marriage
- health/family
- career
- wisdom/knowledge
- children/creativity
- wealth/prosperity
- reputation/fame
- people/travel
With 'Chi' being placed at the centre of the map. The map is used to indicate which areas of the home should have complementary items placed in the area. For example, items representing wealth should be placed at the front of the home. However, the Bagua map is different for different people, depending on your date of birth.
Colour is also an important factor in Feng Shui. Each of the different bagua directions are associated with
a colour - for example, love and marriage are associated with red, pink and white, while yellow and green are associated with health and family.
Feng Shui can be difficult to establish in a modern day home, as they are not normally built with Feng Shui in mind. However, with detailed information, or help from a Feng Shui expert, you can still make your home fit in with Feng Shui ideals.
